Ahoy Matey!

Shannon asked me to make a cake for her little boy's pirate birthday party this past weekend. The party was so cute. I couldn't wait to post the pictures! Let's start with the invitations-aren't they a riot? In true pirate fashion they were delivered in a bottle.
This table was set up for the guest to acquire all the essential pirate gear.

I loved how she used a black tablecloth instead of the typical printed partyware tablecloth. It really makes the plates and decorations pop. They are cheaper too:)

Here is the birthday pirate and his sis.

The pirate cupcakes made by a family member. Aren't they darling?

Looks like the Pirate Party was a blast. Thanks for sharing Shannon!

Oh Baby!

I thought I would share some baby shower treats that I have made. These are some yummy deluxe flavored cupcakes for Jill's Shower. The flavors included lemon meringue, chocolate covered cherry, blackberry cobbler, triple chocolate fudge, vanilla bean and strawberry cupcakes. I think these are a nice change to a your typical buttercream covered shower cake.
These were displayed on a cupcake stand and they each had darling cupcake wrappers and homemade baby themed picks.

cupcake wrappers found at http://www.paperorchidstationary.com/

A baby girl shower cake. On this cake I tried a different technique with staggered bows-very girly:) This was also my first attempt at baby booties made out of fondant.

These cupcakes were made to coordinate with the baby

bedding below from Target.

Finally one for the boys! Twin boys at that. Actually these boys made a surprise debut about a week before the shower. Even though they arrived a little early, they were healthy and the shower didn't even have to be postponed! The shower cake was made to match the party ware below.

It's Football Time in Tennessee!!!

Since the Tennessee football season is upon us, I was reminded of a few big orange sweets that I had made before. The 1st cake was made for a die hard UT fan- friend of ours. It's not the prettiest cake, but it is what is on the inside that really counts. This cake bleeds orange. It is a orange-velvet cake with cream cheese icing. The next cake was for a 5 year old birthday boy who wanted a UT cake(we teach them young around here!). I thought I would also share these cool napkins that I found last fall in a store in Asheville. You can also find them at www.jerseynaps.com. I discovered on the website that they have more than just jerseys now! They have everything from Military uniforms to cutesy themed napkins for all occasions. I've got the real thing at home, and I can tell you that they are really cute in person!

Look what came in the mail!

My order came in from Baby Face Design and I was very pleased! I love shopping online. I think it's the anticipation of getting the package in the mail. Ben got this cute lunchbox and tag for his backpack. Will got a tag as well. Renee at Baby Face Design can make these in lots of really cute designs, but cammo and sports suits my boys! She also made me some calling cards. I thought she did a great job. Now I need to make a cake that looks like the one on my new cards:)

Under Construction

This cake was made to coordinate with the construction party ware above. I really liked how it turned out. I found these invitations from Lil' Duck Duck that also went well with this theme. There are so many cute ideas that can be used to go along with a construction themed party. These pictures are from Family Fun magazine, which always has the greatest ideas. If you have kids or work with kids, it is a great resource to have! Kids would have a ball painting and designing a cardboard house and the nail apron is a great party favor. My son also had a construction themed party when he turned three. I used similar ideas. I decorated with caution tape. The party favor was a construction hat and a Lowe's apron filled with different treats(play tools, stickers, etc). I used a toy dump truck to serve chips. Also for the cake, I think it's cute to fix an oreo dirt cake recipe and serve it out of a dump truck. This is budget friendly and kids love it!

A Soiree (that is a fancy word for party)

Well, I have to admit that when Addy's mom first asked me to do her cake, I was not familiar with Fancy Nancy. I'm a mom of two boys and there is pretty much nothing fancy about our lives:) While I was at Target, I grabbed a Fancy Nancy book and took a look. There were so many possibilities with this cake! Pretty much anything bold, fancy and girly represents Miss Fancy Nancy. This is a really cute party idea. Fancy Nancy likes everything fancy, so at the party they dined on fancy food and had fancy cake with parfaits (a fancy word for ice cream)! I love how even the dads and boys went fancy too.

Oooh La La!!

Jenna had an adorable Pink Poodle in Paris birthday party. It's tradition to read a story at their parties. I thought it was too cute and appropriate that they read a Sassafras book. This set the mood for the activities ahead. They made doggy collar necklaces, hunted for doggy bones around the house, drank from fancy goblets and more. It looks like these gals had a great time!
